The Circus

Look a little closer. Driving into a city and seeing an elephant wandering around is something you might expect to see in Nairobi, or Vic Falls, you know someplace exotic and African (or Asian, but I ain't been, so I ain't seen) city/town/village. Not Palmerston North. But there you have it. Bizarre.

At least it was until I worked out why. It's the circus come to town. Can we go, Mum? Can we? Can we? Mum, can we? Aawwww Mum, can we go?! Muuummmmmm!!

Hey, your chance for a Joel Sternfeld moment. Set it lose and wait for it to get exhausted.

Nice. I remember seeing probably the same circus (there can't be more than one in NZ can there?) in Taupo a year or two back. Tried to get close to photograph the elephant and got told to get out of the way.

yeah, would've tried but didn't have the 4x5 that day.

i think there are two circuses - one north island, one south island. but they are very protective. i was fortunate in that i had a couple of little kids and their father acting as a distraction or me.
