The Advertisement

Having finally gotten my hands on a copy of the latest NZ Journal Of Photography - thanks to David Langman sending me a copy without any prompting from me - I can proudly announce that it contains a review of the Approaches show written by the wonderful Peter Ireland.

I haven't read much of it but early on Peter says that "Approaches is a timely and deftly-curated scratch to the Postcolonial itch." Isn't that lovely?

I've always wanted to scratch the Postcolonial itch.

It's always good to have a review in print, especially a national publication like the Journal. So thanks Peter, much appreciated.

Also in the Journal are a couple of Andrew Ivory's images from the show, and a bunch of other lovely water themed shots.

Buy it. Love it.

The Campfighter

You may remember - if you're a regular reader - that back in June, while doing a wee advertisement for the latest New Zealand Journal of Photography, I stated "I hear the next issue of the Journal is going to be a pretty special one too - due September I think."

Well it is out. Or at least it was in my post box earlier today, so it should be in all good magazine shops shortly - and of course what makes them good is that they hold the Journal.

How special is it I hear you ask. Well you only need to check out the cover.


And maybe the contents page.

Oh yeah there's some crap (joking!!) by/about other people too but you get that.

So anyways enough of that.

I would like to thank David Langman at the NZCP for recognising my greatness. And extra special thanks and love and kisses etc to Katy Corner (Guest editor) who chose to include my work, and Mark Amery for writing such sumptuous words (of course you'll have to buy a copy to find out how sumptuous).

I'd also like to thank my family for all their support, James, Catherine, David and everyone else; Brian, the director; the producers, Gary, Larry, and Barry; the actors in the show who clearly weren't as good as me cos otherwise they'd be up here; the other actors who were up against me - they can't help that they're losers; Paris Hilton for you know what; my good friend Graham and his guitar; and of course God (and maybe Bob Pollard).

The Journal

Just a wee advertisement for the latest New Zealand Journal of Photography. It should be in all good magazine shops shortly.

Inside is a 'review' of the book Contemporary New Zealand Photographers by respected photography writer Bill Jay. Rather than review the book, he looks at what is wrong with New Zealand photography and gives some pointers as to how we can gain wider, i.e. international, acceptance of our work.

Anyone trying to become a contemporary New Zealand photographer/artist should read it, and take notes.

Oh and there's other stuff in there too, but it's written by Kiwi's and being the culture snob I am I haven't read it yet.
