The Cross

It's Sunday, so here's a kinda relevant shot for the masses. I remember Laurence Aberhart once said, when referring to one of his images, that Christian imagery is everywhere in New Zealand art. Some people actively seek it - like my friend and fellow photographer David. Others, like me, are happy just to come across it when we're out and about. Naturally this was far to good (and obvious) to ignore. I even used on a Christmas card a couple of years back.

This pic is very beautiful... It's more than just the christian symbolisim though, it's the ruggardness, the tone, and I always find the square quite settling as a format. Although I thought about you using it on a christmas card, and I have to ask... wouldn't it be more appropriate to use it on an easter card, should you be that organised to send out easter cards that is!?

yeah i thought about that easter/xmas thing, but then i went xmas is about christ too, crosses can have christian symbolism but don't necessarily, i'm not a christian and most people on my mailing list aren't christian, i like this image so i'm using it. artists perrogative ya know.

A cross at Easter? Isn't that all about rabbits laying eggs?
