The Walker

I really like boardwalks. Can't really say why though. There's just something about them. It possibly has to do with the fact that they only ever occur in natural environments but act as a barrier between the walker and the very environment they're walking through. Sometimes they're there to help protect the environment. Sometimes they're there just to stop the walker getting wet feet.

But whatever. I like looking at them. I like walking on them. I like photographing them.

Doesn't everyone like boardwalks & stepping stones? There's some strange security because your path is safe & paved out.. but still there's a danger/mystery because there can be dark swamps underneath & mostly you can't see where they end .. but they keep leading you on.....!

And then there's the cool sound the mesh bits make underfoot.

Those pics are beautiful but I find them spooky - like the thought of being very alone on a walk in a haunted place.

Maybe it's because you once took me to a boardwalk at night for a long bloody exposure in a notoriously haunted place!

nah i don't get the strange security thing. i just get the disappointment that there's some enforced detachment going on.

i like spooky too. not that i find the first two spooky at all. but then i was there taking the photo - mid afternoon on a hot, windy february day. in the deepest darkest west coast.
