Today is the official opening of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
And as any self-respecting bookie type knows, New Zealand is this year's Guest of Honour.
There is a passing of a scroll that happens early in the process of accepting the role of Guest of Honour.
As it states on Te Ara The Encyclopedia of New Zealand - The scroll is passed on from one guest-of-honour country to the next. Each country adds a layer of inscribed perspex to the scroll.
The scroll is a beautiful object. I photographed it earlier in the year. Using only a low-end digital SLR with basic kit lenses, an in-ceiling fluoro tube and a rudimentary cutter.
I was amazed with the results.
