The Cameraless

Years ago, 2003 to be precise, I made this photo without using a camera.

Maybe you can tell. But then, I often ruin quite decent bits of film by utilising them poorly.

First person to tell me what it's a picture of wins a prize.

If I like you and feel generous.

The Pointlessness

This is the kind of fun art you can make with a scanner ...

a photographic print ... a hand (my hand) ... and a cleaning cloth.

It's all rather pointless really.

The Continuing

More pinhole stuff.

Who said you can't do a 5sec handhold?

Though a 10 minute resting on a drain does seem to be slightly more stable.

It's good fun. I just have to remedy that nasty light leak and it'll be awesome.

The Find

It's not every day that you find your name lovingly trampled into the footpath, but today was one of those days.

If one felt like it one could suggest it's a metaphor.

If one felt like it.

The Holey

A couple of weeks ago a friend left me a package at the backdoor.

It was an exciting package, full of various bits of photographic gear.

But the most exciting thing was the return one of my 4x5 filmholders and the box it was attached to.

It's a nicely crafted pinhole camera.

After a couple of little additions - attaching a chunk of inner tube to hold the film holder in place and replacing the lens cover/shutter release - it was ready for a photo.

Being too lazy to work out the aperture I guessed an exposure time of 90min at 100 ISO would suffice.

It could have used 3hrs. Never mind.

And again I managed to beat the system. This time the lab took pity on my cold, wet arrival this morning and didn't bother charging me.

Thanks Imagelab.

And thanks Paul.

The Wright

These are photos from a place I was flatting at a few years back.

It's a literal stones throw from where I am now.

Not that I have literally tested that distance.

The System

I have found a way to beat the system.

If you grossly underexpose tranny you can get away with not paying for processing (even when you do pushes) because the lab thinks the film is blank (even when doing 3 hour exposures).

The only downside is you end up with nigh on unusable images.

Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

The Revisit

Whenever I travel far enough north I always like to fit in a stop on the Desert Road.

This last trip was no exception.

I ventured my vehicle in towards Turoa further than I had ventured it before.

Past the 4WD only sign, and almost to the point where these were taken.

And this is what it looked like on that day.

It was extremely windy, with a very nasty wind chill.

Invigorating.
