The Walker

I really like boardwalks. Can't really say why though. There's just something about them. It possibly has to do with the fact that they only ever occur in natural environments but act as a barrier between the walker and the very environment they're walking through. Sometimes they're there to help protect the environment. Sometimes they're there just to stop the walker getting wet feet.

But whatever. I like looking at them. I like walking on them. I like photographing them.

The Washout

It's been flooding here the last few days. Not near me, thankfully. But up north a ways.

Anyway I thought this shot was kinda relevant. It and the following are from the same trip in late January where I produced this, and this, and this, and this, and ... wait for it ... this too.

The Sculpture

Sometimes it's surprising what those hippie backpacker types get up to. This was on the beach at Okarito in February. Nice mate.

Really makes you wanna visit eh?!

The Autumn

Okay, so I've cheated a bit cos I've already poster this shot before. In pretty much the same post as this. But I could hardly do three of the seasons and miss out autumn could I now?! And it's a nice picture so I don't care.

This just in: I am published yet again, another review. Long may they continue.

The Summer

I remember summer. It was years ago, in some strange land.

Actually it was February, at the Hermitage at Mount Cook. I really liked that this used-to-be/wanna-be classy place served salad dressings in their plastic bottles. That's like kiwiana man.

The Boxes

This was taken in Glen Afton. Some funny bugger had grafittied "Glen Afghantan" around the place. I think they were making some highly cynically ironic political statement about Glen Afton, and comparing life there to life in Afghanistan. Either that or they were just being silly buggers.

The Pipe

Yeah so last week I borrowed a big panorama camera and did a wee road trip to take some reccie shots for a project I am working on. When I got to the location I noticed the nearby soccer field looked stunning in the grey sunlight. So I pulled out my bike, sorted the camera and tripod, and rode down the road to the field.

Naturally it started raining on the way down. And the sun had completely gone by the time I worked out where to shoot. Stand around for 10 minutes getting wetter and colder trying to decide what to do.

I decided to take the shoot anyway. Here it is. And the one I took next.
I was actually after something more like this (below). I'd been to this place the week before and discovered I couldn't get the car close enough to where I thought I needed to be. So last week I took my bike cos it's much easier and quicker to get me and a bunch of camera gear to where I thought I needed to be.

Of course as I was cycling along the track I started thinking that it wasn't going to work it being a ridge track and all, and me really needing something flatter.

Regardless I'd come all this way so I had to take a photo.
Then I went back into town and took another one in what I thought was a more suitable space. Until I got there and realised it wasn't going to work either.
So I've decided I need to road trip farther afield. Current thinking is Pureora Forest. Cool. Anyone wanna come along for the ride?

The Head

Last year I posted this lovely thing. A couple of weeks ago I finally got around to shooting some more ... um ... shots.

I have no idea what's happening with the whole resource consent construction stuff. You think I have nothing better to do than research my projects?! But there are quite a few protest signs around the city if you care to look hard enough. These are two of the more obvious and closer ones (closer to the Point, not closer to me).

At the moment I'm in a ripping off Laurence Aberhart phase. That's what these do. Kinda. But not really.
