The Tree

I shot this in 2000 (I think) and it's one of my favouritest photos ever. Which is odd seeing as I shot it on an RB67 and I really don't like the 6x7 format. But it works for this one. Though I think what really makes it is the wild movement and the tones. I want to more like it but haven't managed to replicate it so far - not even when I went back and shot the same tree. Oh, and just to draw connections etc, it was shot pretty much in the same place (within a couple of metres same place!!) I shot this. Crazy huh?!

The Paranoid

Yeah okay so I didn't take this one, but wotcha gunna do boudit? And yeah okay so the title's a really naff in-joke, but wotcha gunna do boudit? I like the weirdness of it. And the SX-70-ness of it. Makes a change from toilets anyway.

The Station

these stations are empty
so distant i just can't seem to touch them
most of the time
you can find safety in the smooth clear surface
as cool as a breeze
as helpless as this vacant civilisation
and the air we breath
in long, slow breaths
it got us picking up our power
we're free

Just gotta love that angst from the 'Had. This is one more shot from that old roll of film. Rock 'n' roll angle, grain for Africa, nice colours. Do ya think TranzMetro will buy it off me?? For millions????

The Problem

I don't know about you guys but not all the images are loading properly. Rest assured I'm working on it - I blame it on the Blogspot people cos that's easy. But you can click in the little box where the image should be and it will open the image for you. Just takes a bit of annoying back and forthness.

The Toilet

After that brief lapse into the horrors of digital photography we get things back on track with this lovely image of um ... public toilets.

The Front

The more astute of you regular microphen watchers may have noticed a drop off in the amount of posting I have been doing lately. It's not all due to laziness and apathy. Some of it had to do with the fact that I've been homeless for the last month. That has all changed now. Here's a picture. It's the front of my new house. And it's mine, all mine. Until I get a flatmate in. It's very exciting. I even have an office. If only I had a job so I could afford to live here it'd be perfect.

The Back

Okay so I cheated and pulled out my digital camera for these shots. But it was just so easy - especially as I'd just picked it up from the studio and don't know quite where my other cameras are at the moment. Anyway it's my backyard. Mowing the lawn is going to be a real bugger.

The View

Here's the view from my lounge. It's the first time I've had a view with a horizon and sky and everything for years. It's very strange. But I'm sure I can get used to it given time.

The Pukehina

This is another part of the apartments my old flat used to look over. Truly a beautiful piece of 1970s urban architecture. Again shot on that old roll of 1600 trannie and scanned. You couldn't ask for a better washed out 1970s slide look if you asked - and you don't even need photoshop!

The Buda

See Sharyn I told you I shot Luke! He's the one on the right with a bit of red side lighting. The guy in the middle is Sam. The rest of the Phoenix Foundation boys are out there somewhere. This was from last weekend when they played a gig for the International Festival of the Arts. Shot blind on the same roll of film as my previous blog. That's why it's a pretty crappy exposure - and really grainy.

The Result

The result of putting ancient 1600 speed transparency film into a camera with limited metering (and then only up to 200ISO) and exposure settings, wandering around taking photos at dusk and later, pushing the film one stop (when it should have been two) and seeing what happens. This apparently. This shot and another from the same roll have a nice 70s colour to them. Anyone out there got any ancient 1600 speed transparency film they want to give to a worthy cause?

That worthy cause is me in case you were wondering.

The Washing

The result of shooting stills on a very disorganised tv commercial in the Wairarapa. We spent 89% of our time sitting around drinking coffee, chatting, reading newspapers, and eating, 7% of our time wandering around taking shots for oursleves and 4% actually shooting for the tvc. Wandering off set I found the farmer's washing so shot it. I really like domesticity.

The Shelf

Here's a shot I was commissioned (by myself) to take for use on an exhibition poster. Here's a link to the gallery website. It is a small portion of my photography books, all of which are now in boxes screaming to be freed. It's an image that really works for me but i don't really know why.

The Pines

My girl, my girl, don't lie to me, tell me where did you sleep last night. Here's a shot from a few years back before I realised that some cameras actually had a focus knob. I think it was shot on my Mamiya C330 which I never use now and will be putting it on Trade-me soon unless you make me an offer today. In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine, I would shiver the whole night through.

The Train

I'm spending the next wee while as a homeless soul out in the Hutt reconnecting with my childhood. Out that way they have trains that take people there - and sometimes they take people out of it too. This shot is from yet another half-completed sitting under my bed series (well it would be under my bed but that's in storage and I've no idea where the negs are).
